First up: Culture Prophet.
Culture Prophet is the brainchild of Michael Barksdale and Kirby Anysia and started in about 2005. I personally don't understand why they haven't been invited to play at Webster yet. You people need tobe schooled.
These are my reigning favorite tracks:
Culture Prophet - Hustler
Culture Prophet - Here Comes Nasty
Culture Prophet - Erotic City (Prince Cover)
Culture Prophet - Ghetto Bounce
Ocelot - Lo Sforzo (Culture Prophet Remix)
Digikid-84 - B.Boy Underground (Culture Prophet Remix)
Digitalism - Idealistic (Culture Prophet Remix)
And my newest favorite to add to the list:
Danger - 4h30 (Culture Prophet Remix)
Second up: The Bloody Beetroots
The last time I saw The Bloody Beetroots live I got this bruise. Get what I'm trying to say? The Beetroots emerged from Italy in late 2006 thanks to producer Bobby Rifo (who does most of the actual producing) and DJ Tommy Tea. I first had the pleasure of seeing The Bloody Beetroots live when I was adorably underage and JFK of MSTRKRFT snuck me in to the late Studio B (yup, shut up.) But it was the first time I've ever been to a live DJ show. Hooked ever since.
The Bloody Beetroots - Butter
The Bloody Beetroots - Cornelius
The Bloody Beetroots - Storm
The Bloody Beetroots - Talkin' In My Sleep (ft Lisa K)
Cazals - Somebody, Somewhere (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)Congorock - Bluto Fucks Popeye (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
Benny Bennasi - I Am Not Drunk (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
The Bloody Beetroots - Make Me Blank (ft J*Davey)
And my newest favorite:
Proxy - Who Are You? (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
Next up: D.I.M
D.I.M. is under the German based label Boys Noize Records. While he releases his own material as well, he's typically frequenting in the side project of him and label mate Boyz Noize under the act PUZIQUe. But to say the very least, I think D.I.M himself deserves way more recognition than he's given. These are my absolute favorites:
D.I.M - IS YOU
Jape - Floating (D.I.M Remix)
Sono - Always Something Missing (D.I.M Remix)
Cyberpunkers - I Needed To Go (D.I.M Remix)
Fischerspooner - Supply And Demand (D.I.M. Remix)
Depeche Mode - Wrong (D.I.M Remix)
Franz and Shape ft. Kill Memory Crash - Eyes Like Knives (D.I.M Remix)
And for the undying love of The Presets:
The Presets - My People (D.I.M Remix)
Next up: Designer Drugs
Philadelphia natives Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson make up the breath of fresh air that is Designer Drugs. I actually got the pleasure of modeling for them for their "Ready To Rave" tee shirt line about two years ago (check that shit out here!) They are currently releasing new material with iheartcomix Records and have produced over 23 remixes. Oh, and they live right here in the motherfucking East Village and play at Webster almost regularly!
Designer Drugs - Drop Down
Designer Drugs - Zombies!
Thieves Like Us - Your Heart Feels (Designer Drugs Remix)
Tigersapien - Youth And Vitality (Designer Drugs Remix)
True Pseudo - Freaking Me Out (Designer Drugs Remix)
Annie - Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix)
Freezepop - Frontload (Designer Drugs Remix)
Check out there brand new mixtape "DATAMIX08." It's quite possibly my favorite Designer Drugs mixtape to date!
Designer Drugs - DATAMIX 08 Mixtape
And last but most definitely not least: SebastiAn
I'm legitimately in love/fascinated with SebastiAn. His reputation started with his first releases on Ed Banger Records, which basically took over the world in 2005 - 2006. He is incoherently French, smokes like a chimney, and takes your favorite old mediocre song and turns it into a meticulously chopped and sliced, dance floor masterpiece.
SebastiAn - Motor
SebastiAn - H.A.L
Mylo - Paris Four Hundred (SebastiAn Remix)
Klaxons - Golden Skans (SebastiAn Remix)
Annie - Happy Without You (SebastiAn Remix)
The Rakes - We Danced Together (SebastiAn Remix)
Revl9n - Walking Machine (SebastiAn Remix)
The Rapture - Get Myself Into It (SebastiAn Remix)
Bloc Party - I Still Remember (SebastiAn Remix)
This track was recently leaked onto the internet and is well equipped with an eleven minute build up. Needless to say it came with a very mixed reaction. The track comes from the new Ed Banger Promo CD which showcases some of the labels new material coming out later this year.
SebastiAn - Threnody
