Depeche Mode - Sounds of the Universe

I haven't had time to post my thoughts on the album, so here it is finally.

The album will definitely appeal to the long time listener/fan. Why? Well, most of the songs, such as "in chains" "hole to feed," or "perfect" could have been on any number of their recent albums, so in turn, they are far from memorable. "Wrong" is the one of the few tracks that stand out, is classic Depeche Mode, and clearly is why it is the first single. Two other noteworthy tracks are "in sympathy" and "miles away."

The one thing that stands out in this album are the creepy retro synths heard on tracks such as teh instrumental "in sympathy," and the Martin Gore sung "jezebel."

Remixes may breathe some life into these tracks for the rest of us who don't fall into the category mentioned at the beginning.

Let's be realistic hear, the real excitement about a new Depeche Mode release is the anticipation of catching the band live. Below are the dates for Tour of the Universe... Album drops April 20th, 2009.
